Ida Mae “Billie” Olstad
(December 16, 1920 – February 22, 2012)

The funeral for Ida M. “Billie” Olstad, 91 of Lisbon, and a longtime Rutland, ND area resident, will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2012, at the North Dakota Veterans Home Chapel in Lisbon. Burial will be in the Nordland Cemetery of rural Rutland, under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel of Forman, ND.

Visitation will be one hour preceding the funeral at the Veterans Home Chapel.

Ida Mae “Billie” Graham was born December 16, 1920, in Gillespie, IL to Hobart and Alma (Barringer) Graham. She grew up in Gillespie and graduated from Gillespie High School in 1937. She then attended Gradwohl Laboratory Technical School in St. Louis, MO. After completion of her studies and serving a yearlong internship, she began working at several area hospitals.

Billie enlisted in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC). She received an Honorable Discharge upon the completion of her duties.

While living and working in Excelsior Springs, MO, Billie met Maynard Curtis Olstad. They were married September 22, 1945, in Kansas City, MO. They moved to Rutland, ND and proceeded to work and raise their family.

Billie worked at clinics in Rutland and Forman, ND. Upon her retirement, she worked for several years with the Senior Companion Program in Sargent County. This gave her a great deal of joy and wonderful memories. She never forgot her Senior Friends. She was a member of the Nordland Lutheran Church of Rutland and had been active in the Ladies Aid and the Sunday School program.

Maynard passed away on November 10, 1988. Billie continued to make Rutland her home until moving to the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon, where she happily lived until her passing on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at the age of 91.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children: Douglas (Karyn) Olstad of Fosston, MN; Alan (Doreen) Olstad of Rutland, ND; Miles (Sheryl) Olstad of Farmington, NH; Mary (Dwayne) Indridason of Cavalier, ND; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband.
