The RCC met May 5, 2009 at the Rutland General Store with 12 members present: Kathy Brakke, Beverly Kulzer, Carolyn Christensen, Deborah Banish, Doris Hoistad, Connie Gulleson, EllaLou Nelson, Bert Siemieniewski, Sue Anderson, Joanne Harris, Debra Liermark, Vicky Haussler.

New Officers were announced: President – Debra Liermark. Vice-President – Vicky Haussler. Secretary – Jeff Olson. Treasurer – Deborah Banish. Member at Large – Hilary Mehrer.

Minutes of April 2009 were approved as read.

Treasurer’s Report: Bert reported on the checking account and CD balances of the RCC totaling $30,354.28. Treasurer’s Report was accepted as presented.

OLD BUSINESS
Sign: Debra said the proposed road sign for Rutland would be comprised of the same type of material as the one on the Rutland General Store. Liermark will present her information to the Horizons Advertising Committee when a meeting is scheduled.

Deborah reported that the “Welcome to Rutland” brochure is being revised and will be presented again in June.

Hall Renovation: Bert said there is debate on the stimulus package and what may be available for communities; it will be several weeks before additional information is available.

Relay for Life: The Relay for Life event will be Friday, July 10, in Milnor. Rutland agreed to have one team participate this year. Information will be coming.

NEW BUSINESS
Park Board: Liermark reported that the Park Board is progressing on the new playground equipment that will be installed near the Hall. Inspections will start May 23. One issue is what to do with the old equipment and whether it can be sold or raffled off. The Park Board owns the equipment. The Park Board is considering purchasing standard ash trays for exterior placement in town.

The Park Board is also working on a benefit for Hal Nelson. Diane Pherson will attend the June meeting to discuss that event. At this time no date has been set. The RCC will be involved but to what extent has not yet been discussed or determined.

Easter Egg Hunt: Liermark said the RCC has contributed $100 in the past to support the Easter Egg Hunt. She suggested that continue with the request that all promotional material for the event note that the RCC is also a sponsor (in addition to the Rutland Cafe).

Christensen/Brakke moved that the RCC contribute $100.00 for the March 2009 Easter Egg Hunt and request that the RCC be listed as a sponsor for the event on all promotional materials. Motion carried.

Rutland Fitness Center: Connie Gulleson said the RFC began in November 2007 and presently has over 50 members. The treadmills were purchased last year through grant funding. The center has also purchased an elliptical machine. They have sought grant funding but grants are typically only for start-up and not ongoing expenses. Outstanding bills total $2400 and they anticipate a year-end balance of $500.00. The RFC is under the Rutland Park Board; it is not a for-profit entity. Membership is $125 for a single person and $250 for families.

RCC members present requested a formal, written proposal/funding request at the next meeting.

UFFDA DAY: Kathy said she will be unable to order the T-shirts this year. Vicky and Debra volunteered to coordinate the Uffda Day T-shirt ordering.

Rutland merchandise: Vicky volunteered to sell Rutland souvenirs at the Vann auction sale. Cookbooks will be available for $10 and T-shirts (2008 Uffda) will be sold for $5.00.

Future RCC meetings will be held again in City Hall. The next meeting is June 2, 2009.

The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
