Community Club

The Rutland Community Club met August 4, 2009 at City Hall. Nine residents were present: Kathy Brakke, Debra Liermark, Hilary Mehrer, Vicky Hausler, Carolyn Christensen, Ione and Lisa Pherson, Deborah Banish, Connie Gulleson and Diane Smith.

Minutes:No minutes were available from the July meeting.  Mehrer stated that she has some notes from the meeting.  One action was approval of $500.00 to the Envirothon team toward expenses for the national trip to North Carolina.

Treasurer’s Report:Banish provided a financial summary of transactions since June.  Christensen/Brakke moved acceptance of the Report.  Motion carried.

Uffda:Carolyn Christensen and Ione Pherson agreed to serve as co-chairs for Lefse this year.  Kathleen Brakke will order the potatoes.

Hilary will check with the Sargent County Fair Board about renting the inflatables for youth activities this year at Uffda Days.

Relay for Life:Mehrer reported that Pam Maloney paid the $100 entry fee for Rutland’s team participation in the Relay for Life.    Brakke/Hausler moved that the RCC pay the $100 entry fee and reimburse Pam Maloney for the cost of participation.  Motion carried.

Hal Nelson Benefit:  Mehrer said the benefit committee will meet once more this month.  She asked about the RCC participation or contribution to this event.  She suggested a monetary contribution of $500-1,000 for the benefit.

Pherson/Gulleson moved that the RCC contribution up to $1,000 for the Hal Nelson benefit subject to discussion with the event planning committee.  Motion carried.

Youth Play:  Banish reported on a letter received from Pam Maloney requesting financial assistance for the community youth play.  The program receives grant funding and is to be self-sufficient.  The City contributes the use of the hall and provides insurance coverage.

Mehrer/Brakke moved that the RCC contribute up to $500.00 toward the community youth play to cover cash shortages, if any, in the 2009 program.  Motion carried.

Fitness Center:  Gulleson informed the group that the RFC calendar year is October 1 – September 31.  The RFC has purchased two new treadmills and an eliptical; there are no identified equipment needs for the coming year.  The RFC is an adult community benefit.  In February 2010, $1,000 payment is due on the new eliptical.  Members pay an annual fee but the membership does not cover all anticipated expenditures.

Members discussed possibilities such as increased membership fees and other funding sources.

Mehrer/Smith moved that the RCC contribute $500 to the RFC by November 1, 2009.  Motion carried.

Horizons:  Christensen reported on several Horizons-sponsored seminars and programs in September and October.  Most, if not all, fees are covered by Horizons including mileage reimbursement.

The meeting ended at 8 p.m.
