The Rutland-Cayuga Fire District boasts a 25 member, all volunteer fire department to protect the city and nearby communities.

Elementary and High School education is provided by an excellent consolidated school system at Sargent Central in Forman and is affiliated with Oakes Area Vocational School including ITV for high school, and adult students.
