The Rutland Community Club met Tuesday, June 7, 2009, at Rutland City Hall.
Present: Debra Liermark, Renee Cramton, Bill Anderson, Kathy Brakke, Bev Kulzer, Ron Narum, Wendy Jacobson, Deborah Banish, Bert Siemieniewski, Vicky Haussler, Diane Pherson, Doris Hoistad.
Minutes of May 2009 were accepted as read.
Treasurer’s Report. Bert/Kathy moved acceptance of the report as presented. Motion carried.
Uffda T-shirts: Vicky reviewed the bids received for printed Uffda Day T-shirts received from firms including Lisa Wyum and Wieser Screen Printing. Arden Anderson drew the design being used this year.
After some discussion, RCC members present authorized the President and Vice-President to select the printer for the shirts this year. Vicky said that hoodies will be available on a pre-order basis.
RCC members commended Vicky on the information prepared on the T-shirt process and information on the bidding vendors.
Voyageurs International: Wendy Jacobson introduced Justin and Julian Jacobson to RCC members. The two Sargent Central students have been selected to participate in the Voyageurs International music in Europe concert program. They were nominated by their music teacher, Kaia Mahrer, along with one additional SC student. This is a sixteen day tour and concert program. The participants are fundraising to cover their costs. Only three students from Sargent Central were selected.
Bert/Kathy moved that the RCC contribute $500.00 to Justin and Julian Jacobson to defray some costs for their participation in the “We’ve Got Rhythm” European concert trip. Motion carried.
Wendy said they will plan to attend a community meeting after the trip to provide a presentation on the excursion.
Park Board: Diane Pherson spoke about the playground improvements. The area next to City Hall has been cleared; the purple dinosaur has been moved to the Sanderson Field area. The Sanderson Field property was donated to be maintained as a park and the Park Board is legally required to maintain it as such for eternity. The new site will be inspected soon so that the cement anchors can be installed. Jeff Olson is in charge of that project.
Hal Nelson Fundraiser: Diane said that raffle tickets and gun boards have been started. There will be a silent auction and live auction at the event. Food is all being donated. The Rutland Cafe has offered to provide the desserts. All donations are being funneled through the Park Board.
Rutland Website: Deborah said that the RCC Website Committee has been discussing the cost of the website and potential revenue sources. One will be selling advertising space on the site. For now, the Committee is recommending an annual fee of $50.00 to provide a link for Rutland businesses that have a website and want a link from the Rutland site. The Web Committee will also need to set advertising fees for businesses to purchase banner ads.
Wendy/Bill moved that the RCC establish an annual fee of $50.00 to provide a link to Rutland businesses on the Rutland website. Motion carried.
Bill reported that the Lariat Bar building will be moved to the corner where Slim Sundlie’s gas station originally stood (West of the Sargent County Bank Building). The Pioneer House will be moved to South of the Depot Museum. The plan is to restore the Lariat to its 1890s feature and to update it as office or commercial space.
The meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
