The Rutland Community Club met Tuesday, March 2, 2010 in City Hall at 7 p.m. Twenty present. In the absence of the President, Secretary/Treasurer Debbie Banish called the meeting to order.
RCC Board: Banish reported that Debra Liermark resigned from the Board as of February 19, 2010. Vicky Haussler became president. Board members met and held elections. Officers for 2010 are: President – Vicky Haussler, Vice-President – Paul Anderson, Secretary/Treasurer – Deborah Banish, and Director-at-Large - Hilary Mehrer. One more individual is needed to serve on the Board and would be the other Director-at-Large.
Minutes: Harris/Christensen moved approval of the February 2, 2010 minutes as presented. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report: Banish reported on the current fund balances and the income from the pinochle tournament. Rutland Bucks issued at Christmas have a six-month expiration date. She suggested that all future Bucks have shorter expiration dates. Members suggested 60-days for expiration. Banish will develop a standard format for future issues of “Rutland Bucks”. Redemption should include signatures on the reverse.
Maloney/Smith moved approval of the Treasurer’s Report as presented. Motion carried.
Play: Smith reported on the play progress. “The Gong Show” will include some ‘gong-able’ acts; two real acts have signed up so far. The play on March 20 will cost $10.00 in advance. The meal will include lasagna, seven-layer salad, garlic bread and desserts. Any tickets not sold in advance will be available at the door for $13.00. Play only tickets will be available on the 20th for $5.00/person.
PC: Smith asked about the Horizons PC. Banish presented information on virus protection software and costs. It was suggested that the coverage be purchased through Dickey Rural under the Store’s billing so that the virus protection and updates are done routinely without needing a Rutland resident to try to keep the computer up-to-date. It was noted that the cost will be paid from Horizons funds and not by the RCC.
Uffda T’s: Banish reported that the 2009 Uffda T’s have been removed from the store. Past year T’s have been sold for $5.00 after the event; there are 2008 Ts left as well. The ’09 T’s cost the RCC about $8.50 each to purchase and print. She asked if the ’09 Ts should be made available at $5 or $10 to cover costs.
Members agreed that the Ts should be sold for $5.00 in an effort to reduce inventory.
Easter Egg Hunt: Leinen reported that the Easter Egg hunt will be held Saturday, March 27. Due to water and weather issues, it will be held in the Hall this year. She asked if the Community Club would be willing to pay the Hall rent and that the RCC have coffee and bars available in the Hall (free-will).
Mehrer said the RCC should also contribute $100.00 toward the event which has been done the past few years.
Smith/Harris moved that the RCC provide support for the Easter Egg hunt by paying the Hall rent, providing food and beverages, and also contributing $100.00 to Jeanne Leinen to cover prize and other costs. Motion carried.
Openings: Anderson reported that the Rutland Café and the Lariat Bar will both be holding “grand opening” events soon. The Café’s opening is scheduled for Friday, March 19. He suggested that the RCC provide some prizes such as Rutland bucks and Uffda T’s for the event.
Anderson/Smith moved that the RCC contribute ten Uffda Ts and $50.00 in Rutland Bucks (ten $5.00 ‘bucks’) for each of the Grand Opening events for the Rutland Café and the Lariat Bar. Motion carried.
Presentation: Justin and Julian Jacobson made a presentation of their Europe trip with the Ambassador’s International group. Members present also got to taste some Swiss chocolate and look at souvenirs and other photos of the excursion.
(Note: The slide show, without the accompanying delightful presentation by the Jacobson’s, can be viewed on the Horizon’s PC at the Store. There is a shortcut to the presentation on the desktop Due to the size of the program, it takes a while for it to load and begin. The show can be viewed quicker than timed by using the keyboard arrows).
Everyone enjoyed the presentation and treats.
The next meeting will be April 6, 2010.
